Our group's research interests are in the areas of Renewable Energy | Combustion and Propulsion | Chemical Kinetics | Spectroscopy and Laser Sensors. We focus on the development and use of advanced experimental techniques to understand fundamental processes in advanced energy-conversion devices. The laboratory carries out theoretical and experimental research on chemical kinetics using ab initio methods, shock tubes, rapid compression machine and laser-based diagnostics. These strategies enable the study of reaction kinetics, fuel chemistry, autoignition, and emissions under conditions suitable for future high-efficiency, low-emission energy systems. ​We also work on novel spectroscopic strategies to develop laser-based sensor for biomedical and environment monitoring applications.

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Professor of Mechanical Engineering Aamir Farooq has recently been appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). Professor Farooq, chair of the KAUST Mechanical Engineering Program, was elected for his contributions to chemical kinetics research.
